For those of us who have never struggled with drug or other types of substance abuse, it’s almost impossible for us to understand how a person could become an addict. In most cases the person uses the medication as directed, but when they don’t, addiction is possible or even likely. It isn’t just those who are prescribed the drug that are becoming addicted. Because of its potency, many people are stealing the drugs from family members or friends for recreational use, or even purchasing the drugs on the street.

Cocaine addiction has been one of the fastest growing addictions for years. The first time someone does cocaine, the effects are extremely euphoric. It is an unbelievably pleasant experience. The problem is, there is no high like that first high and very few people can stop after the first one. There are many ways people use cocaine. It can be snorted (inhaled through the nose), injected or smoked, to name a few.

Signs of Addiction

They may not be as obvious at first, but after a while, the signs of addiction become quite evident. Of course, depending on the drug, some of the signs may vary but at least two things remain certain; the addict will become irritable when they need a “fix” or a dose of their drug of choice and, they usually will display signs such as shaking hands or dark circles under their eyes that aren’t normally there.
