We often hear of drug abuse and how they are highly addictive.  There are rehab centers available for them in several countries.  Yet there is another form of addiction that sometimes gets a raw deal in the world of treatment and that is alcohol.  When we hear of an alcohol problem, we picture an intoxicated person in a drunk tank and seem to turn our nose up at the thought.  However, alcohol is just as addictive as drugs are for some people.

Teenagers tend to drink at an early age if there is a parent who drinks excessively in the home.  Young people at college and starting out in the world can use alcohol as a crutch to relieve the stress of classes and taking on financial responsibilities they didn’t have before.

Would Alcohol Rehab Centers Work, Too?

Some people drink to forget such as combat veterans or others dealing with a traumatic memory.  Lonely housewives?  One of the most classic addict situations. Alcohol is a type of drug. So yes, alcohol can be an addiction and yes, it can be successfully treated in a proper alcohol rehab center.

We have Alcoholics Anonymous which is separate from Narcotics Anonymous so it stands to reason that there should be alcohol rehab centers that focus on the addiction and symptoms of alcoholism.  The key to success with just such a program is the same as with any other, it focuses on the actual problem, the symptoms and the education of the addiction itself.

The need for alcohol is just as real for an alcoholic as the need for drugs is for an addict.  To downplay alcoholism can be detrimental to the person with the problem and his surrounding family and friends, not to mention innocent bystanders if he gets behind the wheel of a car or indulges his need for drinking while at work.  Accountability is just as important if a person has a problem with alcohol.  DUI offenders are on the rise and more and more judges are issuing stiffer penalties and harsher sentences.  Innocent children and adults are losing their lives when the problem could be alleviated with a mandated alcohol rehab stay.

The next time a loved one over-indulges in drink, take those keys.  Set up a family intervention if the person continually seems to have an alcohol problem.  This is no less serious than a drug addiction.  Have the information on alcohol rehab centers available and treat the matter just a seriously as you would a cocaine or heroin addiction.  It is time to stop turning away from the fact that alcohol is just as serious a problem as drugs are.  Alcohol rehab centers work to help those in need just as well as drug rehab centers do.

Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs out there. I think that’s because it is legal. There are millions of people that are affected by it, thousands of which die. I was an alcoholic for 14 years and I thought there was no way out. There is a way out! I came to Narconon Arrowhead and they showed me the way out.
