Signs of a Cocaine Addict

November 24th, 2009 | by Nick Hayes

Cocaine addiction has been one of the fastest growing addictions for years. The first time someone does cocaine, the effects are extremely euphoric.  It is an unbelievably pleasant experience.  The problem is, there is no high like that first high and very few people can stop after the first one.  There are many ways people use cocaine. It can be snorted (inhaled through the nose), injected or smoked, to name a few. People normally start out with small amounts of the drug and then have to work their way up to achieve the results they crave.  Eventually, they stop getting the results they want but continue to physically and mentally need the drug.

Their pupils will be dilated; the person will have abundant energy and probably be speaking and moving very quickly.

An observant person can see when someone has ingested cocaine even if it is their first time. Their pupils will be dilated; the person will have abundant energy and probably be speaking and moving very quickly. They will have no interest in eating until the cocaine wears off.  Often, their temperature is higher than normal and also their blood pressure will be higher. They will seem very euphoric and happy and overly cheerful. Of course, seeing this one time may not prove cocaine addiction.  If it becomes a habit and you start to see it more often, it may be cause for concern.

After the addict has truly become addicted, their moods will shift.  They will be irritable and sometimes hostile until they get their “fix”.  Then their mood shifts into a better frame of mind, but only until the drug wears off and they need more.  If the addict has consumed large amounts, however, it can lead to erratic and violent behavior.  Never accept these actions.  Call the police immediately. If the addict is behaving in this way, they are using huge amounts of cocaine and are coming very close to overdosing if they continue.  If they become violent, call the police and then immediately contact a rehab center.  This would be one of those opportunities to get them help that could turn their lives around.

If there are ever any questions, never hesitate to contact a drug rehab center. They can advise you on the best way to handle any situation.  Cocaine addiction and overdoses claim more lives every year.  If you suspect someone you love has a cocaine addiction, don’t hesitate to seek help immediately.  You may be the only chance they have at getting back to a normal life.
