The first and most important step for anyone who wants to quit doing drugs is to first realize that they have a problem.

While recognizing there is a problem in first place may be the most important step in beating a drug addiction, it definitely is the first of many to follow.
Because people are different, they tend to recognize their problem in many different ways. While it may take losing everything for one person to finally see that they have a problem, the realization may come for another after missing a few deadlines at work, or after an intervention from family.
Admitting you have a problem doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll right away be ready to find a recovery program. Even if you find yourself wanting to quit, the allure of the drug may be telling you otherwise, creating an internal struggle between you and the addiction.

It won’t be easy, but you can recover and quit doing drugs.
It won’t be easy, but you can recover and quit doing drugs. Once you’ve made that commitment to yourself to stop the drugs, the first thing you may want to do is inform your loved ones, and friends who aren’t also struggling with addiction. Any friends who are struggling with their own addiction issues aren’t going to be helpful. They’re going to see this choice as a threat, and you as no longer being ‘fun’ and will encourage you to continue, even if they don’t realize they are doing so. As difficult as it may be, it’s best to try to break all contact with those friends and lean on those non-addict friends or family members who can give you encouragement and support you need.
Before the withdrawal process begins, find a reputable rehab facility and check in. Inform your family and friends and if possible invite them to go along with you as support.
If you are concerned that the temptation to buy drugs will be too much if you have access to cash, ask someone who you trust if they will be willing to take care of your finances until you feel more secure in your recovery process.
Remember this process isn’t an easy one, and will come with good and bad days, but you can do it. Getting involved in a church and a 12-step program can also be beneficial to helping you get through this time in your life, and remember that even if you have a set back, that it isn’t the end of the road. Keep trying and stay committed to yourself, your program, and you will be successful.
