There is no disputing that summer means more outdoor activities. Along with being out and about more often means new friendships. For most people this is a good thing. For drug addicts, however, it can mean more drug connections and more drug using friends. While pushing loved ones away, they build up the people who are of like mind and are into the drug scene. While drug addicts usually try to isolate themselves; in the summer, even they may be more active.
The plus side to summer is that people are actually able to occasionally convince their loved one to attend family and social gatherings. The down side is; they will probably be high on their drug or drugs of choice. This usually winds up ruining any celebration that may have taken place. Drug addicts often disappear more often and for longer periods of time during the summer. This leads to a lot more worry for friends and family members.
Summer is an excellent time to consider getting help for the drug addict. Addictions often get worse in the warmer months, so this is the perfect time for rehabilitation. Remind the loved one or friend of the fun events coming up and how much more fun they will be if there are no drugs involved. Tell them how much they are loved and that this should be the summer they seek some help.
Summer should be a time of fun and activity, as well as family functions and social gatherings. Drug addictions tend to ruin that for everyone. The worse thing to do is make excuses for the drug addict. They need to see how their addiction affects those around them and making excuses simply enables them to continue their drug use. The friends and family members should go on and have a good time, or as much as possible. The drug addict’s actions are not the fault of loved ones. In fact, the drug addict may actually realize the fun that can be had when drug-free.
Summer means much more social contact, which often worries loved ones. It shouldn’t. The drug addict must take responsibility for their own actions. Try to remain positive and try to have fun. Encourage the drug addict to get help so that they can join in the fun activities and actually enjoy them. The sooner they get help, the sooner they can enjoy the summer.
