On Saturday May 17, 2009, the 6th annual Montreal Media Celebrity Hockey Marathon was hosted by 94.7 HITS FM and Excellent Ice, located in Kirkland, Quebec. The tournament consisted of 600 hundred players, including a very large group of former NHL hockey players. Each year this tournament is hosted to help raise money for the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation, which is a foundation set up to help purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment for the hospital that government funding by itself cannot provide. Narconon Trois-Riveires was very privileged to be invited to this event to help raise money for a good cause.
Our drug education team was able to set up the drug prevention booth, to help display all the drug education materials available. The group was handing out brochures, Ten Things Your Friends May Not Know About Drugs, and delivering athletic massages to the hockey player’s in-between games. All proceeds raised were donated to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation.
The hockey marathon ran from 7am Saturday morning to midnight that night, and once again it was a huge success. All the sponsors involved help contribute greatly to raise money for an excellent cause, and put on a fantastic show to all in attendance. The participants in the marathon are to be commended for their dedication and determination to help raise money that could potentially save someone’s life. With all the support of the local media, NHL Alumni players, and celebrities, the event over the past five years was able to raise $125,000, and they set a target this year to raise $40,000. All the proceeds have gone to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation. Narconon Trois-Rivieres would like to thank all the organizers for giving us the opportunity to participate in a very successful event.
