Entering any sort of rehabilitation program in order to make a long lasting change in your life requires the right mindset. You cannot simply expect change to happen against your will or without your complete cooperation. Positive change requires a positive motive, which in most reform cases comes from a negative event that opens your eyes.
Drug rehab is not a program you can enter with a negative tone and expect positive results, change must first occur in the internal sectors of your life before it becomes visible in the external. For most of the people in this world who have overcome an addiction to any sort of drugs, a tragic even has occurred that helped them see the downward spiral that their life has evolved into, in the form of their drug affliction. That is why the primary basis of rehabilitation is not to force someone out of their drug habits, but to nurture and encourage them to grow of their own accord.
It was once said by Albert Einstein that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing many times, while trying to get different results.
So how could anyone in their right mind expect to fight a dangerous addiction to narcotics without in turn breaking your own habits, accepting the humility of your condition? You can’t, because it is impossible. Forcing an idea or belief down someone’s throat and expecting it to stick in a positive fashion would be a comparable feat to nailing Jello to a tree. For example, you cannot insert a child into the water and expect it to instantly know how to swim; it must first face its fear of the water and the unknown. Breaking down the walls of your comfort zone and swallowing your pride are definitely a must if you want long lasting change.
It is now, and has been, common knowledge that not entirely applying yourself to a task does not necessarily mean that the task will not be completed, but it does often mean that the task will be done to get the minimum results needed to achieve the state of completion. I.e., if you want to be able to complete the rehabilitation process in order to only satisfy law enforcement requirements and not to change your life around, you will serve your term in the clinic and emerge as a vulnerable recidivist. However, if you desire change after admitting to everyone around you, and most importantly yourself, you will be able to finish the program and emerge as a metaphorical phoenix rising from the ashes of your addiction.
A positive attitude is a must for everyone entering any sort of drug rehabilitation program and expecting positive results, because these facilities do not change your mind and your ways for you, they simply provide the means to help you along the path of healing, should you choose it.
