Drug Rehab 101

September 17th, 2009 | by Nick Hayes

Taking the step of going to drug rehab is a courageous and a big step. A lot of people may not know what to look for or even expect in drug rehab. Since not all rehabilitation programs are the same, it is important that you choose carefully for yourself or your loved one.

Mission Statement and Treatment Method:

Every business has a “mission statement”. Find out what it is for the rehab center you are considering. You will also want to find out what treatment methods they use. The most helpful treatments are those that are drug-free and use the holistic approach. That means they attempt to heal the mind, body and spirit instead of just treating the physical symptoms.

The Narconon detoxification program utilizes sweating in a dry sauna to eliminate drug residues from the body.

Detox method:

Again, methods vary from rehab to rehab but you will want one that has the maximum positive results. Find out how they help the withdrawal symptoms and how they help rid the body of the toxins.

Programs:

There is a vast amount of therapy and group programs that are used in different rehabilitation treatment centers. Find out a little bit about their programs and what they hope to accomplish with them. Not all programs are going to work for all people.

Don’t be rushed:

Be wary of a drug program that claims you’ll be drug-free in 2 weeks. Healing the body and the mind and spirit all take time. Most specialists agree that 90 days should be pretty much standard for adequate drug treatment. You shouldn’t have to leave the treatment center until you feel you are ready to face the world.

Taking this step isn’t always easy. Sometimes a loved one finds out the answers beforehand so all the addict only has to worry about is to get better. This is fine too. In fact, the more family is involved, the better. Find a drug rehab that is right for you or your loved one. Going through drug rehab may not be easy, but when you are dealing with a rehab with good programs and people, chances are even greater that rehab will be successful.

  • Narconon offers a great program for drug addicts, it also offers a great program for people that just got off drugs so they could get back on their feet and start all over.
  • hey, thanks for the post.
So very true about not rushing into treatments that promise totaly recovery and drug free in 2 weeks. Recovery is a life long process that should be lived one day at time!
