First, congratulations for taking that important step!
You’ve decided it’s time to get help and you are checking out the different rehab centers. Good for you! Not all rehab centers are the same so it’s best to check out several and choose the best one for your needs. Whether you are going to opt for inpatient or outpatient, you’ll need to know a few things about their practices and procedures before signing in.
- Do they offer Detox? While most do, there are many outpatient facilities that do not offer detoxification. This is something you will need to know before you begin.
- What is their Mission Statement? Any business has a mission statement, which outlines their beliefs and goals for their business. It can really tell you a lot about a treatment center
- Are they accredited? Find out if they have any certification at all and if so, by whom.
- How do they decide when someone is ready to be released? Try to get as definite an answer as you can to this one.
- Do they use drugs in detox or at any point in the process? Some do, some don’t. If the objective is to rid your body of drugs, a holistic approach is probably your best bet. The last thing you want is to trade addictions.
- Can they describe a typical day or week at their facility? This gives you an idea of how much group time and individual time you will have as well as give you an idea of the other activities and groups they have going on.
- Who chooses your counselor, and why? People aren’t always good matches. Just ask them how they match people up or if they just randomize.
- Is their staff fully trained? Obviously, you want people there who know what they are doing and not a bunch of people just in off the streets.
You may have your own questions as well to add to the list. There may be certain things you are curious about, like the detox process. You are within your rights to ask as many questions as you need when choosing a drug rehab program. Write the list of questions down before speaking with the people at the drug rehab. If you forget something, call them and ask more questions. The important thing is that you do ultimately decide and go to get the help you need to beat the drug addiction.
