Should I Go to Rehab?

October 25th, 2009 | by Nick Hayes

Should I go to rehab? If a person has asked himself or anyone else that question; the answer is yes, he should go to rehab.  Just by asking the question, the addict has admitted that he has a problem and needs help to solve that problem.  The admittance of having a drug problem is the first step and perhaps the most major step in a person’s rehabilitation.

should go rehab Should I Go to Rehab?A person should go to rehab if he is dependent upon drugs.  It doesn’t matter if the addict is addicted to prescription or illegal drugs.  Addicts of either type of drug eventually get to the point where they need help to overcome their addiction.

One of the main signs that a person needs to go to rehab is if they cannot face getting out of bed without the ‘help’ of the substance they are dependent upon.  When a person gets to this point, he has most likely already lost his job, or spends most or all of his check on his addiction.  He qualifies his expenditures on drugs with the twisted theory that he needs the substance he is addicted to in order to perform his job.

A person needs to go to rehab if he has criminal charges due to his addiction.  These charges don’t have to be actual drug possession or distribution charges.  If a person has been charged with stealing, or any other illegal activity in order to buy drugs, then yes, he should go to rehab.

When loved ones leave the addict because of his addiction, it is definitely time for him to go to rehab. It affects everyone in the family, not just the addict himself.  Drug addiction is a major cause of divorce today.

Should I go to rehab?  If a person has answered yes to any of the above paragraphs, the answer is definitely yes, he should go to rehab. People used to have a very negative attitude towards rehab, but that attitude has been greatly changed over the last few years.  Rehab is now known for a place to get help; a ‘safe’ place where the body and mind can become substance free. Rehab is a place where the addict can be counseled by professionals; professionals who are committed to helping the addict overcome his addiction.  While in a residential drug rehab, the addict will, with guidance, actually retrain his body, mind, and soul, into believing and knowing that he can live without drugs.

  • thanks for the post.
And yes, that is the telltale sign, asking yourself if you should go to rehab, that you should be in some form of rehab.
However, I think the next step is to see your doctor and then the two of you can make an educated decision on what type of treatment would work best.
