To all those students that are about to start university,
I just wanted to wirite you a message reiterating the importance of taking your schooling seriously. Many students feel that school is one big party and quite often take things too far to the point where they miss numerous classes and forgo the responsibilities of being a student.
The end result of this more times than not is failure. In the post secondary education systems of today once one fails out of the system it becomes rather difficult to re-enter due in large part to the massive number of applicants that there are today. One must always remember that for every open position there may be in a university there are hundreds, if not thousands, that are out there looking to fill them.
Also employers out in the workforce are looking for skilled, educated types over the less motivated, so persistance and a thurst for knowledge should be motivation enough and the driving force to succeed.
I’m not trying to say don’t enjoy the university life because, believe me as a graduate myself it is the opportunity of a lifetime. Go out and have fun, but before you go out and pollute yourself to the point of where you can’t make your responsibilities as a student a priority just remember this, the opportunity to go to university is a privelege, not a right!
Wishing you all the best in your future studies,
JD
