The awards shown above include only a sampling of formal acknowledgements from Mayors, City Councils, Governors, legislatures, judges and other social betterment organizations to Narconon organizations worldwide
With Narconon International now having a presence in and throughout the worldwide community it is hard to choose the best examples of international cooperation between Narconon and government officials for drug rehabilitation – so – we will try a lucky dip!
Nigeria
First is Narconon Nigeria – a country believed to be the core of the drug trade in Western Africa, has seen political and civil instability enable the rise of criminal organizations that control global drug trafficking operations. With a population of around 149 million people, UN statistics reveal that in 2004 – 925 people received formal drug addiction rehab.
The nearest Narconon drug rehabilitation center is in Egypt. Yet Narconon has a presence in Nigeria, in the form of a local Narconon Drug Education and Prevention Center. To celebrate International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2009 – the Narconon Drug Education Center joined forces with the Representative of Oshodi – Isolo Federal Constituency 1, a political science lecturer from Lagos State University, and the local Daystar Christian Center to bring public awareness to Nigerian youth in a series of public lectures about substance abuse and drug prevention.
Philippines and Asia
In 2003 Narconon International was approached for drug prevention by the Director of PDEA, Philippines and returned the President of Narconon International together with the Australian President to deliver First Step (Home Detox) and Drug Education training to government employees. Of 48 newly trained drug educators – 22 went out to deliver simultaneous drug education presentations in 19 classrooms – reaching over a 1,000 schoolchildren in the same hour. “Touch assists” therapy that enable pain-free drug-free detox were demonstrated at the local rehab centre (400 people), the orphanage (300 residents) and the local prison – where 100 prisoners were taught assists to help around 2,800 prisoners – in a prison built to accommodate 600.
Since then Narconon Melbourne, of Australia, has from 2007 proceeded to meet and talk with government officials and anti-drug agencies in Fiji, Singapore, Djakarta, Bali and Taiwan and to implement drug education, First Step and detox assist programs, to overcome substance abuse and addiction.
Sweden
Narconon Sweden, which is government funded by local communes, has seen the development of three residential centers – Narconon Huddinge in 1972, Narconon Eslov in 1982 and Narconon Knutby in 1990, for drug rehabilitation. Locally licensed, many students on the courses are fully funded to graduation. Staff works harmoniously with local police and government agencies to deliver drug education programs – a 1990′s study showing an improvement in family relations from 41% prior to the Narconon program to 94% after, and with a significant reduction in criminal activity after using the drug prevention programs.
Against current trends towards increased drug use in Europe, Sweden and its balanced, comprehensive public health approach has been showcased as a model of success, its rates of drug use considerably lower on average than for other European countries.
USA
In the USA there are many independent Narconon drug rehabilitation centers, such as Narconon Kentucky – accredited and warmly regarded by government officials in the local community but not community funded, despite servicing an area of acute poverty and associated drug use.
Narconon Arrowhead of Oklahoma is proud to have received the highest State accreditation from Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
Narconon Arrowhead is accredited with and serves the State of Arizona – where Narconon was born.
Canada
In Canada, Narconon of Québec is a registered charity, with all related benefits and exemptions. While focusing on drug rehabilitation, Narconon also contributes to and receives recognition from the community for initiatives such as drug education programs for schools, raising awareness for drug rehab by participation in community events.
