There is an entirely new form of drug addiction that is on the rise in Ontario: oxycontin drug addiction. That’s right. More and more people are falling victim to prescription drug addiction; they legally get a prescription drug because of an ailment or injury and then they become controlled by it. The people who find themselves with this particular drug addiction are caught in a catch-22.
Being addicted to a prescription medication such as Oxycontin is every bit as dangerous as any other drug addiction, and yet people are still continually able to receive it. This is because some physicians may be wary of taking a person off of Oxycontin if they have a chronic condition. Still, how can the patient get over the condition if they find themselves battling a bigger problem: Oxycontin drug addiction?
The number of Oxycontin drug addiction cases is on the rise in the Ontario area. The helpline at the drug rehab blog for Narconon states that nearly half the calls they receive are related to Oxycontin and other prescription drug addictions. This is quite believable, as Oxycontin is more readily available not only in Ontario but in other parts of Canada, the U.S. and even Europe.

So how does one deal with Oxycontin drug addiction in Ontario? The same as they would no matter where they were—they would reach out for help from a reputable helpline. That first step would lead them to the recovery program ideal for their individual needs.
As the brain tells the body that it needs a prescription drug that the person should no longer be taking for any medical reason, and certainly not in such high dosages, then it becomes apparent that the person needs to make the decision to get clean and detoxify their body of the drug. While this is easier said than done, there are wonderful and reputable programs available that put the patient first and put all their energy into helping the patient break free from the control of Oxycontin drug addiction.
Ontario has seen a rise in Oxycontin drug addiction just as in other parts of Canada and the U.S., but with diligence, perseverance, and caring physicians and counselors, the cases of Oxycontin drug addiction in Ontario can be faced, fought and won. It starts with one person reaching out to others who can help him/her get the help they need. In the end, that is what matters most.
