Narconon Success Story – James Truman

The following story was written by a graduate of the Narconon Trois-Rivieres drug rehab program; this individual gave Kevin permission to publish their success so others can gain the confidence that sobriety is possible.

Hello!

I am very pleased to be able to share with you the story of how I got help and got my life back with the help of Narconon. I was always what you would call an addictive personality… if I tried anything that could possibly become addictive, I became an addict of it. I was very young when I started taking drugs and drinking alcohol excessively, age 12. I had kept it to weekends for a while, until it began to be drinks and drugs during the week, whether at school or skipping school to do it.

before james truman Narconon Success Story James TrumanI never touched anything really strong, such as cocaine or heroin until after my brother committed suicide in December of 1995. It was devastating to my whole family, not just me. It was shortly after that when I tried cocain for the first time and I had found the answer to my negative emotional rollercoaster…do a big line and all the troubles vanish right? WRONG. I got worse and worse doing blow and then one day my ‘friend’ introduced me to crack-cocaine… and that was the beginning of a very bad trip that lasted 10 long years.

I moved to Vancouver because my parents had enough of me stealing from them and they kicked me out. It only got worse there until one day I was collecting a debt that was owed to me and I went too far, sending a person to the hospital and myself to jail. I ended up serving a five year sentence in a federal penitentiary out in Abbotsford, BC. After completing my sentence I had decided to move back to my home town where I was born, Edmonton, AB. It was close to my son, who was 9 at the time and since I never changed my associates or my environment, the time eventually came for me to step back into the drug use and abuse. I lost everything once again; visits with my son, my house, my friends’ and family’s trust, as well as all my money and all the job opportunities were flushed down the toilet. All because of my ongoing addiction to cocaine (mainly) and other drugs.

One day I had just finished doing a fix of morphine under the low-level bridge downtown Edmonton and I had a realisation… that if I was to stay on this path I’d chosen I would be dead very soon. I don’t know how I knew this I just did, with all of my heart. So I called my mother from a payphone (collect, of course) and relayed that feeling I had to her and she had me on a plane the very next day to Quebec. I didn’t know what to expect, I was so nervous. I was a shell of my former self, I barely even recognised my own face in the mirror anymore. I had come to Narconon… and I had CHOSEN to come. That was the difference between this time and all the other attempts at kicking the habits, it was my willingness.

I knew there was nothing left of me but my body and mind… whatever was left of THAT at least. I accepted the program and completed mine in October of 2006. I was, however, unable to apply what I had learned, I had become the ‘glib student’ and shortly after my graduation fell back into using. I was then back into criminal activity which of course landed me in jail once again. I knew that I needed to redo the program without the ‘glibness’ aspect, really pay attention and see the applications in my own life as I went along in my repair program. This was the key to my success, the knowledge of HOW TO APPLY the things I had learned and how to get the full benefits from the technology that I was taught.

after james truman Narconon Success Story James TrumanSince then, I have had a couple of slips but now I am able to take a step back, figure out what went wrong and where, and fix it myself in order to not have anymore damage done and carry on in my life. I am happily married to also a graduate of Narconon Trois-Rivieres, and we have 15 month old twins. One boy and one girl; they are the best thing that has happened to me in a while… well, since my wedding anyways… lol.

I wanted to share this with everyone because I wanted to make sure that we all know life is hard and can really kick you when you’re down. That is where we have to make a CHOICE… to either let it continue to kick us or to get up, dust off , and say “to hell with you, I am in control of this and this is how it’s going to be!!” In doing that you have given yourself back that which was lost to drug and alcohol use/abuse…CONTROL. You are in control and you always have been, just remember to exercise that control like a muscle because you know what happens to a muscle if it is not exercised right? It becomes useless and hard to get back. I have many friends now who trust me, people that I meet see a smiling face and a confidence that was gone away for a long time. All I did was remember that I control myself, and I am strong willed and have a right to be successful just like everyone else does.

I hope this story will help someone or many others to realise their potential and spur them into action, and remember that it’s never too late to change or ask for help. I am here for you. If you need to talk to someone or just need someone to listen, my email is jatruman at msn.com and I check it regularly. I would be more than happy to listen and help however I can. Thank you for reading this and I wish you all the best. Flourish and prosper people!!

Yours Truly,

James Truman – Narconon Trois-Rivieres  Graduate
