Memorial Day and Drugs

Written on May 31st, 2010 by adminView Comments

Most drug addicts (and alcoholics) don’t really need a reason to use but a holiday gives them a good excuse. They claim they are celebrating, just like everyone else. It seems to be a strange way to honor those who have passed before us, doesn’t it?

Families of Drug Addicts

Written on February 4th, 2010 by Nick HayesView Comments

Families of drug addicts are affected just as much as the addicts themselves. Their lives are changed. They are affected financially, emotionally, and sometimes physically. Drugs are selfish bullies that want to be the center of everything in a person’s life and the center of their families lives as well.

Alcoholism and Substance Abuse

Written on December 31st, 2009 by Nick HayesView Comments

Neither alcoholism nor substance (drug) abuse is a disease. In recent years, it has become a popular theory that both are diseases and the addict himself is ‘sick’ with addiction. This line of thought gives the alcoholic/addict an easy out—they can’t help their drinking or using drugs because they are sick. The truth is both alcohol and drugs are addictive; the user wants and needs more and more of his abused substance. Both actually do affect the user’s brain, but it is not a brain disease.

The Underlying Problems Drug Addicts are Avoiding

Written on December 30th, 2009 by Nick HayesView Comments

The hardest stage to get through when you are a drug addict or are dealing with one is denial. It is hard for a drug addict to admit he or she has a problem. This is why there is such a need for interventions; it is hard to make a drug addict face the realization that a problem does exist. Some people believe that having a few drinks after work or at a social occasion is fine, and for many it is. However, there are some who can not stop and end up getting drunk. Some people believe that smoking a joint of marijuana is okay and relaxing. They are in denial that an addiction is coming or that it can harm them in the long run.
