If you begin a relationship with someone who drinks heavily, think long and hard about your feelings. Are you in it for the long haul? Because having a relationship with an alcoholic affects every aspect of your life, together and separate. If you are married to or in love with someone who heavily drinks, you may find yourself having a financial hardship. When it comes time to pay the bills, money may have been spent on drinking instead or your partner may have called in to work in order to stay home and drink and therefore did not work enough hours to cover the monthly expenses.

Perhaps the people who are most torn apart by drug addiction, other than the addicts themselves, are the addicts’ family members. The effects of drug addiction on an addict’s family are emotional, financial and physical. A person on drugs can become violent and domestic assault occurs frequently. The number of such cases is on the rise as more and more people from all walks of life fall victim to drug addiction.

What many people may not consider is that when abused, alcohol can be extremely detrimental to the health and in some cases cause death. The effects of alcohol are caused when the alcohol is consumed by drinking it and it absorbs into the bloodstream through the stomach. Another factor which comes into play with the effects of alcohol is the amount of food the person has consumed before they begin drinking.

Being addicted to drugs is rough and can be a hard battle to win, but it can be won. However, being addicted to drugs while pregnant can be a battle someone innocent never should have to fight. If you find yourself pregnant while under drug addiction, be open and honest with your doctor. Tell him immediately because the development effects of children born to drug addiction can be permanent.

Unfortunately, drug abuse and addiction does not only touch the life of the addict but also everyone who is close to them. Family members may have the best intentions, but often, they get caught up in the web of drug addiction. They may not become addicts themselves but there are consequences nonetheless. Mentally and physically, a loved one’s drug addiction takes its toll on family members.
