Drug addiction and alcohol addiction ruin the holidays for everyone involved. Sure, we got great gifts, but the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. All afternoon and evening we would hear the little barbs coming from my Mother and Father. Even at my Grandmother’s house, but they curtailed it somewhat there. Alcohol addiction is the reason my sisters and I never wanted to spend Christmas night at home. We would take our favorite toy to Grandmother’s house and ask to stay there.
