1.1 Introduction to Crystal Meth

What were you like when you were 17 years old?

I wasn't like the average 17 year old. I ran away from home at 15. I was still in high school. I grew up rough, a lot rougher than most people should have to. I sold drugs in high school to put food in my belly and a roof over my head. My mom and I got along well, and I did not always have a place to stay. However, it wasn't very often that we were getting along, for she was also afflicted with an addiction. My dad was always the one who made me live the hard way. So, at 17, basically I was fighting and getting high, yet still trying to maintain my high school.

1.2 The Crystal Meth Plague

Did you finish your high school? I actually made it up all the way to grade 12 and I had a roof over my head, solidly for those 3 years. I wasn't really into hard drugs then. I was more into acid once in a while, but mostly alcohol and weed. Then, I met a girl and dropped out. When did you first begin using crystal meth? I was 19 years old. It was in December. I remember that very clearly.

Were many of your friends aware of its effects?

None of my friends were actually into crystal meth. They were on other types of drugs like crack, weed, acid, mushroom and other types of that stuff. No one I knew was really into crystal meth.

Would you have tried crystal meth under normal circumstances?

I was a drug user and I tried lots of drugs before. I wasn't addicted to any particular drug, but as soon as I tried crystal meth, it was love at first hit. It just took over. I was bound to. I was a drug addict, and I was never happy with any drug in particular. Then I finally found it.

1.3 How Crystal Meth Can Be Appealing

What's the big difference with this drug?

Crystal meth is cheaper, lasts longer, and you can function on crystal a lot longer than any other drug. I could sit there and do one long line or rail, and I could be up for a day and a half if I didn't do anymore. Where as if I did cocaine I could be sleeping that night. The more you do, the higher you got. The higher you got, the longer you stayed up. It was cheap. I could either go buy some crystal or go buy coke. Well, I would go with the crystal since I could buy much more with my money. I've done a lot of coke, crack, ecstasy, crystal meth, and crystal is the worse one I ever did. Crystal really sat there and grabbed a hold of me from the first time I tried it. It's a home-wrecking drug. It ruined my life. Fortunately, I had people that still cared about me in the end. Some people don't. I was able to get to rehab before it was too late.

What was the initial feeling after taking the meth?

I tried a lot of drugs up until crystal meth. When I first tried it, I liked it. I liked it a lot.

1.4 Severe Health Issues

How did your body react to crystal meth? I didn't have to eat anymore. I felt like a robot: I could stay up for hours and days on end, I needed very little sleep and I didn't need nourishment. I also lost weight. The body tingles. It's kind of an indescribable feeling. It's as if a warm blanket is pushed all over you, some type of crazy warm blanket. Mentally, your thoughts are very dispersed. They're all over the place. It definitely makes you go crazy. I personally went crazy.
